Description

Someone stole the school computers leaving a note asking for ransom.

Help solve the crime using the chromatography method to identify the note ink with the suspects’ markers.

You can find proof of whether or not the note was written by a specific marker. with this package you can work on a classical chemical method and see a specific practical use of it.

The activity includes materials for 15 groups, a manual-guide for the teacher and a guide and worksheets for the students in English.

Materials included in the package:

3 different types of markers

chromatographic solvent

15 chromatography sheets

capillaries

Materials needed but not included:

Chromatography vessels (beakers)

test tubes

aluminium foil

The package includes a criminological scenario which students are asked to solve by the method of chromatography. The materials in the package are enough for 15 groups of students.

Chromatography: It is a method for separating and analyzing mixtures of molecules. It comes from the words color and I write, it is essentially writing from color. In chromatography a mixture of molecules, depending on the analyte, is placed on a solid base and transferred therefrom with a gas or liquid solvent. As the mixture moves along the base, the molecules in the mixture travel at different speeds and their separation can be due to many factors such as size, structure and affinity with the solvent.
