What organs does the urinary system consist of?

Male Urogenital System

The urinary system consists of the 2 kidneys and the 2 ureters that make up the upper urinary system, as well as the bladder and urethra, the lower urinary system. On the kidneys, which are shaped like beans, sit the adrenal glands. They are endocrine glands, produce hormones and do not belong to the urinary system. Behind the bladder, there is the anus and the rectum, the final part of the large intestine. Other organs that border the bladder and are involved in urinary disorders are the organs of the genital system.

In men, the prostate surrounds the urethra where it originates from the bladder. While the seminal vesicles that produce semen along with the prostate attach to the back wall of the bladder and join anatomically and functionally to the prostate.

In women, the vagina is located behind the urethra and bladder, while the uterus embraces the bladder from below and behind.

The organs of the urinary system:

– produce urine with the kidneys, thus restoring the balance of water in the body and substances important for the regulation of blood pressure and blood production, ie hematopoiesis.

– contribute significantly to the removal of waste substances from the body, especially the residues of proteins that are mainly nitrogen compounds.

– actively transport urine down through the pelvis of the kidney and ureters, which are thin tubes that end in the bladder. Store urine in the bladder and

– excrete urine out of the body through the urethra with urination.
