The differential is the mechanism designed to allow the two driving wheels in front- or rear-wheel drive vehicles, or the two transmission shafts in four-wheel drive vehicles, to rotate at different angular speeds and to distribute the torque according to the coefficient of adhesion of the driving wheels, either increasing or decreasing it.
