Electrochemical Treatment of Dirty Water
Water pollution is one of the biggest threats to the world’s population.
When it gets infected, we can not just leave it “aside” in the hope that the environment will create new, clean water.
A process that is often used to treat dirty water is called coagulation / flocculation and consists of concentrating the dirt from the water and removing it.
The process involves adding some chemicals to the water and then concentrating the impurities using electricity.
Electro-condensation, as it is called, is the process you will perform with this box.
The box includes materials for 15 groups as well as a textbook for the teacher and worksheets for the students (in English).
The box includes:
30 aluminum electrodes
15 red crocodile clips
15 black crocodile clips
1 sodium sulfate, 15 gr
1 0.1% crystal violet, 15ml
Materials needed but not included:
200ml beakers, 9-volt batteries
Optional materials
Funnel, filter paper
